Yep, it’s official, Christine and I became parents yesterday afternoon at 2:14PM with the birth of our sweet little baby girl, Greta Bronwyn. Yay!
Our due date was Sunday, the 8th, and we had already made plans with our doctor to have labor induced on Monday night at 7:30PM, giving us one more full day to prepare for her arrival, but I guess Greta had other plans!
Christine’s water broke at 4:15AM and despite running around like a bunch of lunatics right after it happened — yes, amigos, some things really are like the movies! — Christine, her mom, Marge, and I managed to be at the hospital and in a labor and delivery room with our official paparazzi team, Ryan and Laura, in tow well before 5:00AM. Impressive, huh?
And though we filled that room to capacity with our team of still and video cameras, iPods and laptops, I gotta say, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. So, thanks guys for helping cheer Christine on throughout the day. You guys rocked!
As you can imagine, we have hundreds of pics and videos of everything that went down yesterday afternoon, but for now, wanted to share my favorite pic with y’all. This was taken just a couple minutes after Greta was born at 2:14PM. She weighed 7.6 pounds and measured 20 1/4 inches long at birth, and we’re already completely in love with her…so, happy birthday Greta!
Oh, and you know what’s even cooler? March 9th is Barbie’s birthday as well. Hooray! All those crazy “X-Files” , “Elvis” and “Harley Davidson” Barbies in Greta’s bedroom will finally pay off!
Congratulations!
Wow, how exciting. You can’t even begin to imagine all the joy that is store for you!!!
I am so happy for you. Greta is one lucky baby girl too! Withe the coolest parents ever! See you soon.
Love to all of you!
Congratulations you guys. Great to see everyone healthy and happy.
Hooray for the arrival of Greta – what a wonderful day! Congratulations to you and Christine! Can’t wait to meet the little one. 🙂
Oh, the fun and amazement that is to come!!! We are thrilled to hear the news of little Greta. Congratulations! (Good job, Christine!)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRETA! I love that name.
YAY, that is great news!! Congratulations! So glad everyone is doing well. Are you at St. Joe’s?
Welcome to the world, Greta Bronwyn. What an AWESOME name (I know a Bronwyn and have always loved her name). Can’t wait to see more pics.
Happy Birthday Greta!!! Welcome to the Romero family. Congratulations Tom and Christine!!!
Greta, I will be visiting you this week and am looking forward to it.
Love you all!
Gramps (or whatever you want to call me when you can speak. I imagine your Pop will have you saying :”I VONT TO BE ALONE” as soon as possible.)
Ha! Yeah, Dad…I already tried to teach her that last night in the hospital. Here’s hoping it sticks! 🙂
And to all of you locals who’ve asked, we are at St. Joseph’s in Burbank, so feel free to stop by to visit whenever you like today or tomorrow. I think we’ll probably be leaving Wednesday around lunchtime, but until then…we’ll be there! So, come meet Greta!!
Happy Birthday, Greta. Can’t wait to meet you!
Felicidades! That’s so cool. Crazy Uncle James can’t wait to meet her in person.
BTW, why is it people always mention the baby’s weight and height, but never the width? Wouldn’t the width of the baby be the true bragging-rights measurement?
i.e. “Oh, your baby was only five-and-a-half inches wide? That’s nothing. My baby was six-and-a-half inches wide, if you can believe it!”
Congratulations! As a Mom of three and a Grandmother of three, my advice is to sleep when Greta sleeps, and to have visitors bring food and clean up the kitchen.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Good point, James. But if you really want bragging rights, go for the head circumference!
Ha! That’s right, Cathy…”My baby’s brain is way bigger than yours is!” sounds like a much cooler brag than how wide someone’s newborn is! 🙂
Tom- I think what Cathy means is the size of the head is what you have to squeeze out. So the bigger the head, the harder the birth. Although the big brain thing could work too. 🙂
You gotta give credit, where credit is due!
Congratulations!!! I had a feeling you were w/ child. You so need to get on Facebook. Bookmarking this URL and remembering is too much work. She is beautiful. So happy for you both.
This is in response to James’ width request. I remember reading on the little card in Greta’s hospital bassinet that her head was 14″ and her chest was 13″ so they do, on some level, measure width as well as length and weight. Measurements aside, from one of her three adoring grandma’s who was fortunate enough to be a baby-holding “hog” for my 48 hour visit, Greta is simply exquisite and our family is so fortunate to be blessed by this little human being who seems so content to be in the world of her loving mommy and daddy
Randomly Googling my daughter’s name and found this! We also named our daughter Greta Bronwyn in 2008. I never would have thought anyone else would have come up with that!
That is so funny! I think I found a picture of your Greta B. online one time too and thought that was so funny that we both picked the same names! Great minds — or should I say “Greta” minds! — think alike I guess!
