Joe Klein’s “angry, left-wing media” quote of the day!

Best. Quote. Ever.

“There is a tendency in the media to kick ourselves, cringe and withdraw, when we are criticized. But I hope my colleagues stand strong in this case: it is important for the public to know that Palin raised taxes as governor, supported the Bridge to Nowhere before she opposed it, pursued pork-barrel projects as mayor, tried to ban books at the local library and thinks the war in Iraq is “a task from God.” The attempts by the McCain campaign to bully us into not reporting such things are not only stupidly aggressive, but unprofessional in the extreme.”

This was taken from Joe Klein’s bad-ass piece on the Time magazine blog. Read Klein’s entire post here and as always, que viva la free press!

  1. I don’t know why people are wasting time criticizing Sarah Palin, or even talking about her for that matter. The running mate hasn’t really made a difference in a Presidential election in the past 48 years.

The last time the running mate carried any weight was when John F. Kennedy picked Lyndon Johnson, reluctantly because that was the only way to carry Texas. Thanks to LBJ, JFK carried Texas and won by the slimmest margin at the time.

I have a feeling that 99% of the electorate would still vote the same way between McCain or Obama regardless of whether or not Palin and Joe Biden were on the ticket.

The only VP candidate that could have made a difference would be Hillary, and the only difference that would have made would be to energize Republicans to vote against her. So in retrospect, Obama made the wise choice for not selecting Hill.

  2. Kelly

They are wasting time criticizing her because Sarah Palin isn’t the woman that was supposed to be a part of the presidential race. If McCain had picked a male running mate, no matter how conservative or moderate, he most certainly would not have received the attention that Sarah Palin has received. She hasn’t received this attention because she is a woman, she has received it because she is not The(ir) Woman. Well, you know what they say, ‘There’s no such thing as bad publicity.’ I am not particularly crazy about her either but I feel that all the NOW members out there that can’t even manage to care for the one child they decided to keep without a nanny or day care should keep their hypocritical mouthes shut.
